Fish the “Walleye Capital of the World” on Lake of the Woods and the Rainy River

Cooper’s Guide Service provides a fun and memorable fishing experience for the fisherman who wants a personal guide experience.  Our guided fishing package is the perfect alternative for those who are serious about fishing but don’t want to charter fish.

While Walleye is our most sought after species we can also plan a day of fishing for others such as Northern Pike, Lake Sturgeon, Small Mouth Bass, or Muskie.  Your trip will be planned to meet your interests and may include a shore lunch if you wish.

Rods, reels, bait, nets, coolers, and electronics are already on the boat so it is not necessary to pack too much gear.  Tackle may be provided; an additional fee may apply for lost tackle.  Fish cleaning and packing is also included.  As always when fishing it is important to bring rain gear, a camera, and practical clothes for the season you are fishing.

There are 2 seasons for Walleye; the regular summer season is one.  This provides the opportunity to fish in the bays, on the sand, deeper in the mud or trying your luck on some of the rock reefs that are known to hold nice Walleye.  Also the shiner run on the river can provide excellent fishing in the fall.  The other is a spring season on the Rainy River.  This season is open in early April and the limit is 2 Walleye with none over 19.5 inches being kept.  It is a great time to get out early and catch some nice Walleye.

Northern and Lake Sturgeon are open year around although the Lake Sturgeon has dates where it is catch and release only.  To keep one of these fun and fighting monsters you need to come late April to early May or during July, August, and September.
